US airfreight forwarders have issued a warning regarding potential risks associated with privatizing certain functions of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Speaking at the CNS Partnership Conference, Brandon Fried, executive director of the Airforwarders Association (AfA), highlighted that efforts to reduce and privatize elements of the TSA could compromise the aviation security frameworks that were established following the events of September 11, 2001.
This concern stems from the belief that a shift away from federal oversight in critical security areas might introduce inconsistencies or reduce overall effectiveness, potentially creating vulnerabilities in the air cargo and passenger screening processes.
