STRABAG has successfully deployed a Liebherr LPO 100 battery-based power system to support the expansion of a drinking water reservoir located in a forested area near Lake Zurich, Switzerland. The system provided reliable power for cranes and other construction equipment on-site, overcoming the challenge of a severely limited existing grid connection.
This innovative power solution facilitated quiet and emission-free operations, which was crucial for the environmentally sensitive forest location. By utilizing the battery system, STRABAG avoided the need for extensive and potentially costly grid expansion, allowing the project to proceed efficiently through its phased reconstruction plan.
For freight forwarders involved in project cargo or specialized logistics, this highlights a growing trend towards sustainable and self-sufficient power solutions for remote or environmentally sensitive construction sites. While not directly impacting freight rates or capacity, it signals a demand for logistics partners capable of handling equipment for such advanced, green construction methodologies, potentially involving specialized transport for battery systems and associated machinery.
