Röhlig SUUS Logistics, based in Warsaw, and Dubai's Octagon Freight Services recently completed the transportation of a substantial onshore drilling rig. This project involved moving the rig from the United Arab Emirates to Poland.
The shipment was notable for its scale, consisting of 122 individual components with a combined volume of 6,555 cubic meters and a total weight exceeding 2,000 tonnes. Röhlig SUUS Logistics took on the primary role of contracting and coordinating the entire logistics operation for the end client.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this project underscores the ongoing demand for specialized heavy-lift and project cargo services. Such movements require meticulous planning, coordination between multiple parties, and expertise in handling oversized and overweight cargo. Forwarders should note the importance of strong partnerships for executing complex international projects, particularly those involving intricate customs procedures and diverse transport modes across different regions. This type of shipment often involves specialized equipment and permits, impacting lead times and costs.
