Pilbara Ports Report Modest Throughput Increase in April 2026

Pilbara Ports achieved a total monthly throughput of 65.9 million tonnes in April 2026, marking a 2% increase when compared to April 2025. This overall growth, however, masked differing performances among its main port facilities. Specifically, the Port of Port Hedland handled 47 million tonnes during the month. Of this volume, iron ore exports accounted for 46.3 million tonnes, which represented a 1% decrease year-on-year for that commodity.

For freight forwarders and operations managers, these figures suggest a stable but not rapidly expanding cargo flow through the Pilbara region. The slight reduction in iron ore exports from Port Hedland, despite an overall port authority increase, indicates potential shifts in commodity movements or loading efficiencies. While not a major disruption, it's a data point for monitoring regional commodity demand and potential minor adjustments in vessel scheduling or cargo handling at specific terminals.
