Finnish maritime logistics provider Meriaura has officially taken delivery of the 6,735 DWT vessel Sofia VG. The ship was constructed by Royal Bodewes Shipyard and represents the first in a new series of vessels for Meriaura. A key feature of the Sofia VG is its readiness to operate on biofuel, aligning with increasing industry demands for more sustainable shipping solutions.
This delivery is part of Meriaura's broader strategy to modernize its fleet and reduce its environmental footprint. The company has been investing in vessels capable of utilizing alternative fuels, positioning itself to meet future emissions regulations and client expectations for greener supply chains.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the introduction of the Sofia VG means expanded options for environmentally conscious breakbulk and project cargo movements. The availability of biofuel-ready vessels can help clients meet their own sustainability targets and potentially reduce their Scope 3 emissions. While direct rate impacts are not specified, the premium for green shipping options may influence pricing, and capacity for specialized cargo remains stable with this fleet addition.
