Medway, a prominent rail freight operator, is scheduled to initiate the initial construction phase of what will become the largest rail terminal across the Iberian Peninsula by the end of 2026. This ambitious project is anticipated to have a construction timeline of almost two years for its first stage.
This development signifies a substantial investment in the region's rail infrastructure, aiming to bolster intermodal freight capabilities and streamline logistics operations.
For freight forwarders and supply chain managers, the completion of this terminal is expected to bring several benefits. It will likely increase overall rail freight capacity within the Iberian Peninsula, offering more robust and potentially faster alternatives for cargo movement. This could lead to improved schedule reliability and new routing opportunities, particularly for goods transitioning between sea and rail or road and rail. The enhanced intermodal connectivity could also contribute to reducing road congestion and carbon emissions for certain cargo flows.
