Maersk has officially launched a new dedicated weekly refrigerated (reefer) rail service. This service connects the pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster in Hyderabad, India, directly to the port of Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru Port). Developed in close collaboration with CONCOR (Container Corporation of India), the service is specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical exporters.
The new offering operates on a fixed weekly schedule, utilizing 40-foot refrigerated containers. A key feature is the emphasis on pre-trip inspection compliance, ensuring the integrity and temperature control necessary for sensitive pharmaceutical products during transit.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this service provides a more reliable and potentially faster inland transport option for temperature-controlled cargo originating from the Hyderabad region. It could lead to improved transit times and reduced risks associated with multi-modal transfers, especially for high-value pharmaceutical goods. The fixed weekly schedule offers predictability, aiding in better supply chain planning and inventory management. This dedicated rail link may also help alleviate road congestion and offer a more environmentally friendly alternative for this specific trade lane.
