Maersk has announced the introduction of its new FI2 weekly ocean service, establishing a direct connection between Far East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. This new offering will utilize six vessels, each with a nominal capacity of 4,500 TEU. The inaugural westbound sailing is scheduled to depart from Shanghai on June 4, 2026. The port rotation for this service includes Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Nhava Sheva, and Pipavav.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the launch of the FI2 service provides an additional option for cargo movement between these two significant trade regions. This new dedicated service aims to enhance schedule reliability and potentially offer more consistent capacity, which could be beneficial for supply chain planning. The direct calls at key ports in both regions may also lead to optimized transit times and reduced transshipment complexities, impacting routing decisions and overall logistics costs.
