Dutch heavylift shipping specialist Jumbo is expanding its fleet with the addition of two new multipurpose vessels. The company has signed a contract with Chinese manufacturer Dajin Heavy Industry for the construction of these two 25,000 DWT heavylift ships. The total value of the order is approximately $156 million.
These new vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. This strategic investment aims to bolster Jumbo's capabilities in handling project cargo and other specialized heavy-lift shipments.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this expansion signifies a potential increase in available capacity for oversized and heavy-lift cargo in the coming years. While the immediate impact on rates or routing is minimal given the distant delivery dates, it indicates a long-term commitment by Jumbo to the heavylift sector, which could offer more options for complex project logistics in the future.
