Jumbo, a Dutch heavy lift shipping specialist, has entered into an agreement with China's Dajin Heavy Industry for the construction of two advanced heavy lift vessels. Each vessel will be equipped with two cranes, each boasting a 1,200-ton lifting capacity. When operated in tandem, these cranes can manage a maximum payload of 2,400 tons (2,177.2 tonnes). The newbuilds are designed to comply with DNV classification society regulations, ensuring high standards of safety and performance.
This collaboration aims to expand Jumbo's fleet with state-of-the-art vessels capable of handling increasingly large and complex project cargo.
For freight forwarders and project cargo managers, this development signifies a potential increase in available capacity for oversized and heavy-lift shipments. The enhanced lifting capabilities of these new vessels could facilitate the transport of larger industrial components, offshore wind farm elements, and other mega-modules, potentially offering more flexible routing options and reducing lead times for complex projects. This investment reflects ongoing demand in the project cargo sector.
The vessels are expected to meet future market demands for heavy-lift transport, supporting various industrial and energy projects globally.
