Executives from J.B. Hunt Transport Services recently stated at an investor conference that truckload rates are expected to climb by 20% within the next two years. This anticipated increase is primarily attributed to carriers aiming to restore their profit margins, which have been under pressure.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this forecast suggests a significant change in budgeting and procurement strategies for road freight. The projected rate hike could lead to higher transportation costs for shippers, necessitating adjustments in supply chain planning and potentially impacting final product pricing. Forwarders should prepare for these increased costs and communicate proactively with clients regarding future rate structures. Capacity might remain stable, but the cost per mile is expected to rise, affecting overall logistics expenses.
