GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) has officially opened its new Cargo Terminal 2. This expansion marks a substantial increase in the airport's air freight handling capabilities.
The new facility is designed to initially manage 50,000 metric tonnes of cargo annually. However, it possesses the infrastructure to scale up its operations, with an ultimate potential capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes per year. A key feature of Cargo Terminal 2 is its dedicated temperature-controlled pharmaceutical zone, which is crucial for handling sensitive medical shipments.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development at Hyderabad Airport means enhanced capacity and specialized handling options, particularly for pharmaceutical cargo. This could lead to more efficient processing of air freight, potentially improving transit times and reliability for shipments through Hyderabad. The increased capacity may also support new routes or higher frequencies for air cargo carriers operating in the region.
