High-tech airfreight imports into the United States saw a substantial increase of 57% during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This surge represents an additional 157,000 tonnes of cargo, according to data from Aevean. The primary drivers of this growth were shipments originating from Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this sustained growth in high-tech volumes from Asia to the US implies continued demand for air cargo capacity on these key trade lanes. It suggests that rates may remain firm or even increase due to the strong market, and securing space for high-value electronics and components will be crucial. Forwarders should anticipate potential capacity constraints and plan accordingly, especially for time-sensitive shipments.
