GT Wings has introduced a new ship performance assessment tool designed to support the early-stage evaluation of its AirWing™ wind-assisted propulsion system. The tool, developed by independent experts Blue Wasp Marine and utilizing their proprietary Pelican Suite™ web-based platform, has received approval from the classification society RINA.
This development aims to provide reliable and structured indications of potential fuel savings and reductions in emissions for vessels considering the AirWing™ system. By offering comprehensive performance data upfront, GT Wings seeks to enable shipowners and operators to make more informed decisions regarding the adoption of wind propulsion technology.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the broader adoption of wind-assisted propulsion systems like AirWing™ could contribute to more stable and potentially lower long-term shipping costs due to reduced fuel consumption. It also supports sustainability goals, which are increasingly important for shippers and beneficial for supply chain reporting. While direct impact on immediate rates or capacity is not expected, it signifies a trend towards greener shipping, potentially influencing carrier choices and future operational efficiencies.
