Nordion Energi has initiated the construction of a liquefied biogas (LBG) facility within the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden. This new infrastructure is designed to liquefy biogas, allowing it to be more easily transported and utilized across various sectors, including maritime shipping, heavy-duty road transport, and industrial applications. The facility will specifically benefit biogas producers connected to the existing gas grid by opening up new markets that were previously inaccessible due to geographical limitations.
The project aligns with Nordion Energi's objective to transition the gas grid towards 100% renewable gas sources. By converting biogas into its liquefied form, it becomes a viable fuel option for areas not served by the traditional gas pipeline network, thereby broadening its potential use cases and contributing to decarbonization efforts in hard-to-abate sectors.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development signals a growing availability of alternative, renewable fuels for maritime and heavy road transport.
