DSV recently completed a significant heavy lift project, transporting two large columns from their origin in China to their final destination in Poland. The shipment included a concentration tower column weighing 554 tonnes and another column at 286 tonnes. DSV's project logistics division was responsible for the entire transport chain, from the initial collection in China through to the final delivery in Poland.
DSV's project logistics team, based in South Korea, played a crucial role in this operation. Their responsibilities encompassed all commercial and contractual arrangements, as well as the intricate coordination of the sea freight segment, which is typically the most complex part of such heavy lift movements.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this highlights the specialized capabilities required for heavy lift and out-of-gauge cargo. Such projects demand meticulous planning, specialized equipment, and strong coordination across multiple geographies and transport modes. The successful execution by DSV demonstrates expertise in managing complex logistics, which can be critical for industrial projects requiring oversized components. Forwarders handling similar cargo should anticipate lengthy planning phases and the need for specialized carrier and port services.
