CargoBeamer has announced a significant increase in its intermodal rail service between Calais and Perpignan, now operating six weekly roundtrips. This expansion aims to provide a more frequent and reliable connection for freight moving between these key French hubs.
The service is designed to offer a more environmentally friendly alternative to road transport, with a reported 93% reduction in CO2 emissions per unit. This aligns with growing industry demand for sustainable logistics solutions.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this enhanced rail link means increased capacity and improved schedule reliability for cargo moving between the UK (via Calais) and northern Spain (via Perpignan). It presents a viable option for reducing transit times and environmental footprint, potentially impacting routing decisions and offering a competitive advantage for certain types of cargo. The higher frequency allows for better planning and reduced lead times, especially for time-sensitive shipments.
This development is expected to further integrate rail into cross-border supply chains, supporting efforts to shift freight from road to more sustainable modes.
