The Valenciaport Sandbox, an innovation testing ground, recently completed a successful pilot program for a novel passive radiative cooling film. Developed by the startup Cooling Photonics, this material was tested at the Transbase Soler depot during the summer, yielding positive results.
The technology is designed to lower the internal temperature of containers without requiring any external energy input. This passive cooling method leverages radiative properties to dissipate heat, presenting a sustainable solution for temperature-sensitive cargo.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this innovation could significantly impact the logistics of refrigerated goods. A viable passive cooling solution might reduce reliance on traditional reefer containers, potentially lowering operational costs and energy consumption. It could also offer increased flexibility for certain types of cargo that require temperature control but do not necessitate active refrigeration, possibly freeing up reefer capacity and offering new options for less energy-intensive cold chain logistics.
