Marine energy supplier Peninsula has announced the successful completion of its initial liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at the Spanish Port of Sagunto. This milestone took place in mid-September, utilizing the Levante LNG, a 12,000 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessel co-owned by Peninsula and Enagás subsidiary Scale Gas. The vessel delivered LNG to the car carrier Thor Highway.
This first-time LNG delivery at Sagunto significantly boosts the availability of alternative marine fuels within the broader Valencia port cluster. The move is expected to support a diverse range of vessel segments operating in the region, aligning with global efforts to decarbonize shipping.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signals a growing infrastructure for cleaner shipping options in the Western Mediterranean. Increased availability of LNG bunkering services can support carriers in meeting environmental regulations, potentially influencing vessel deployment and routing decisions for LNG-powered ships. This could lead to more reliable service options for shippers prioritizing sustainability on routes touching the Valencia region.
