Logistics provider DSV and ocean carrier CMA CGM have formalized a partnership aimed at significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport. The agreement targets a reduction of 12,000 tonnes of CO2 over a two-year period. This will be achieved through DSV's adoption of CMA CGM's ACT+ low-carbon shipping solution, which leverages alternative, lower-carbon marine fuels.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this initiative signals a growing trend towards integrating sustainable practices into supply chain operations. While the immediate impact on spot rates or capacity is unlikely, such agreements contribute to the long-term shift towards greener shipping. Forwarders may see increased demand from shippers for similar low-carbon options, potentially influencing carrier selection and contract negotiations in the future. It also highlights the importance of understanding and offering various decarbonization solutions to clients.
