Data released by the World Shipping Council (WSC) reveals that over 10% of cargo transport units (CTUs) inspected by government authorities in 2025 exhibited safety deficiencies. A total of 93,079 unit inspections were conducted across seven countries, with 9,645 units, representing 10.36% of the total, identified as having problems. These issues included incorrect documentation, improper packing, and inadequate marking and labeling.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this high rate of deficiencies underscores the critical importance of meticulous adherence to cargo packing and documentation standards. Non-compliance can lead to delays, fines, and potential safety hazards during transit. It highlights the need for robust internal quality control processes and thorough checks before cargo is dispatched. Forwarders should ensure their clients are fully aware of and comply with international regulations to avoid disruptions and additional costs.
