Statkraft, the Norwegian renewable energy company, has announced the completion of its divestment of all green hydrogen development projects in the United Kingdom. The buyer is Kentron Green Nordic AS, a Norwegian-owned entity with operations in the UK. This transaction follows Statkraft's strategic decision in May 2025 to cease pursuing new green hydrogen projects, citing increasing market uncertainties.
Kentron Green Nordic AS is part of a larger group that is currently engaged in developing a range of wind farm and green ammonia projects, including the Neptun Glomfjord initiative. This acquisition will integrate Statkraft's former UK hydrogen assets into Kentron's existing portfolio.
For freight forwarders and supply chain professionals, this development signals a consolidation in the green energy sector. While not directly impacting immediate freight rates or capacity, it reflects ongoing shifts in investment priorities within the renewable fuels market. The focus on green ammonia projects by the acquiring entity, Kentron Green Nordic, could indicate future demand for specialized shipping and logistics services related to ammonia transport and infrastructure development, which may involve breakbulk or chemical tanker operations. This move might also influence the long-term availability and pricing of alternative fuels for maritime transport as the green hydrogen market evolves.
