Oliver Josse, who serves as co-CEO of Seascale Energy, the marine fuel procurement joint venture formed by Cargill's Ocean Transportation business and Hafnia, is scheduled to step down from Cargill in December. Josse has been with Cargill for 36 years and has been a member of the Ocean Transportation leadership team since 2010, playing a key role in establishing Seascale Energy. Gaetan Perret, currently leading Marine Fuel Procurement for the West region, will take over Josse's responsibilities as Vice President, Marine Fuels at Cargill and will also become co-CEO of Seascale Energy, alongside Peter Grünwaldt, effective December 14.
For freight forwarders and ops managers, this leadership transition within a significant marine fuel procurement entity could potentially influence future bunker fuel purchasing strategies and pricing. While an immediate direct impact on freight rates or capacity is unlikely, changes in leadership at major fuel suppliers can sometimes lead to shifts in procurement policies or supplier relationships, which might subtly affect bunker costs over time. Monitoring such leadership changes helps in understanding the broader market dynamics of marine fuel supply.
