Optimarin has announced that its Optimarin Guardian ballast water management system (BWMS) has successfully obtained DNV Type Approval. This new system integrates established UV reactor technology from Hyde Marine with Optimarin's existing control systems and component portfolio. The Guardian BWMS is designed to be a compact solution, offering a range of capacities from 60 to 3,000 m³/h, making it suitable for various vessel types.
This development signifies the full integration of the Guardian system into Optimarin's product offerings. The collaboration leverages Hyde Marine's proven UV technology, which has a track record in ballast water treatment, combined with Optimarin's expertise in system controls and components.
For freight forwarders and vessel operators, the availability of a new DNV-approved BWMS provides an additional option for ensuring compliance with international ballast water regulations. The compact design and varied capacity range could offer flexibility in retrofitting or newbuild installations, potentially impacting vessel operational efficiency and route planning by facilitating adherence to environmental standards globally. This helps mitigate risks of port state control detentions related to ballast water discharge.
