Everllence has announced the successful conclusion of full-scale testing for its 12-cylinder 175DF-M dual-fuel methanol engine. Conducted at the company's Test and Research Center in Frederikshavn, Denmark, the trials confirmed the engine's reliable operation using both diesel and methanol fuels.
This validation marks a significant step for Everllence, which has already received its first commercial orders for the high-speed engine. Deliveries of the 12V and 16V175DF-M variable-speed gensets are scheduled for mid-2027, initially for two superyacht clients. The company anticipates expanding the engine's application to various maritime sectors, including tugs, offshore vessels, governmental ships, and passenger ferries.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the increasing adoption of methanol-fueled engines like the 175DF-M contributes to the broader trend of decarbonization in the maritime industry. While this specific engine is initially targeting superyachts and smaller vessels, its successful development and commercialization signal growing confidence in methanol as a viable alternative marine fuel. This could lead to more methanol-powered container ships and other cargo vessels in the future, potentially impacting bunker availability, routing decisions, and eventually, freight rates as carriers invest in greener fleets to meet environmental regulations and customer demand for sustainable logistics.
