The Dutch Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) has approved GoVolta's request for access to the Netherlands' railway infrastructure. This decision will enable GoVolta to launch new international passenger train services connecting the Netherlands with cities such as Paris, Cologne, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg.
The approval came after an economic equilibrium test, initiated at the request of the national railway company NS. The assessment concluded that GoVolta's proposed services would not negatively impact the economic balance of NS's main rail network concession.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, while this news directly concerns passenger rail, it signals a broader trend towards increased competition and utilization of European rail networks. Greater rail capacity and more diverse operators, even on passenger lines, could indirectly influence discussions around track allocation, maintenance, and overall rail infrastructure investment.
