Global bunker supplier Vitol Bunkers, in collaboration with agricultural firm Olam Agri, has concluded a bio-bunkering operation at the Port of Singapore. The operation involved supplying approximately 247 metric tons of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) co-processed with cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL) to the vessel MV Scion Mathilda. This trial aims to demonstrate the fuel's operational performance and viability during a complete commercial voyage.
This development is significant for freight forwarders and shippers as it highlights ongoing efforts within the maritime industry to adopt more sustainable fuel alternatives. The successful validation of such co-processed fuels could lead to their wider availability, offering options for carriers to meet decarbonization targets without major infrastructure overhauls.
