TAM Group, a Hong Kong-based General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA), has officially launched a new dedicated air charter division. This strategic move is designed to cater to the increasing demand for time-sensitive and specialized air cargo shipments across various industries. Fernando Carballal has been appointed as the group charter director to lead this new venture.
The new division will offer flexible full and part-charter solutions. It is set to handle a diverse range of commodities, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, electronics, humanitarian aid, and components for the aerospace and automotive sectors. This expansion reflects a growing market need for tailored air logistics services that go beyond scheduled linehaul capacity.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies an additional option for securing air freight capacity, especially for urgent, oversized, or high-value cargo that cannot be accommodated on regular flights. The availability of dedicated charter services can provide greater flexibility in scheduling and routing, potentially mitigating risks associated with supply chain disruptions. This could be particularly beneficial for critical shipments where delays are not an option, or for project cargo requiring specific handling and direct routes. It may also impact pricing for such specialized services, offering competitive alternatives to existing charter brokers.
