Lufthansa Cargo is introducing its FRA-OS module to digitalize and expedite import customs clearance at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). The initial phase will focus on e-commerce and general cargo moving through the Neutral Cargo Transfer Point (NFÜP). This new system aims to consolidate customs information, enable partial automation of processes, and provide comprehensive end-to-end shipment tracking. A key benefit is that eligible cargo can now be presented to customs at bonded warehouses at a later stage, rather than requiring immediate clearance upon arrival.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a potential improvement in efficiency and predictability for air cargo imports into Frankfurt. The ability to defer customs presentation to bonded warehouses could reduce dwell times at the airport and offer more flexibility in logistics planning.
