GetJet Group has announced a significant investment of approximately €25 million for a new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar at Vilnius International Airport. This development is set to substantially increase the group's technical capacity for aircraft servicing.
The new facility is projected to create more than 100 new employment opportunities. When combined with other ongoing investments in both Vilnius and Šiauliai, GetJet Group anticipates generating around 200 new jobs within the aviation sector in Lithuania. This strategic expansion aims to bolster the company's MRO services and strengthen its overall aviation asset management capabilities.
For freight forwarders and air cargo operations managers, this investment signals a potential improvement in aircraft availability and maintenance turnaround times in the Baltic region. Enhanced MRO capabilities at a key regional airport like Vilnius could lead to greater operational reliability for air cargo carriers utilizing the airport, potentially reducing delays caused by maintenance issues. While not directly impacting air freight rates or capacity in the short term, a more robust MRO infrastructure supports the long-term stability and efficiency of air cargo services in the area.
