DM Transport has integrated its inaugural fully electric truck, a Volvo FH Electric, into its operations for container transport within the Port of Rotterdam. This new vehicle is specifically designated for moving containers on the QTerminals Kramer Rotterdam (QTKR) site, providing services that include transport for the carrier Ocean Network Express (ONE).
This investment represents a step towards greater sustainability in port logistics. For freight forwarders and operations managers, the deployment of electric trucks in major ports like Rotterdam signifies a gradual shift towards greener inland transport options. While this single truck's immediate impact on overall capacity or rates is minimal, it contributes to the long-term decarbonization goals of the logistics sector. As more such initiatives are adopted, it could lead to reduced emissions for the landside leg of container movements, potentially influencing future tender requirements and environmental compliance for shippers and forwarders operating in the region.
