The Marine Fuels Alliance (MFA) has integrated an emissions calculator, powered by TidalIQ, into its website. This new tool is designed to help shipping companies meet the requirements of the FuelEU Maritime (FEUM) regulations. Users can utilize the calculator to estimate their vessel or fleet's compliance status, assess potential penalty exposures, determine pooling requirements, and calculate the indicative value of any surplus compliance.
Anthony Mollet, Executive Officer of the MFA, stated that the TidalIQ platform extends beyond mere calculation, enabling users to transition from data analysis to concrete action. It facilitates the management of fleet compliance, identifies opportunities for emissions pooling, generates standardized documentation, and maintains a clear audit trail for verifiers and internal record-keeping.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development offers a valuable resource for navigating the complexities of maritime decarbonization regulations. The ability to proactively estimate compliance positions and potential costs can aid in strategic planning, budgeting, and optimizing vessel operations to minimize regulatory risks and financial penalties. Understanding pooling requirements and the value of surplus compliance could also open avenues for collaboration or revenue generation within the industry.
