LODD Autonomous has officially launched the certification program for its Hili hybrid Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) cargo aircraft, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). This marks a significant transition for the Hili aircraft, moving from its developmental phase towards achieving commercial certification.
The Hili aircraft is engineered to transport up to 250 kilograms of cargo over distances reaching 700 kilometers. Its design is intended to cater to diverse logistical requirements, including healthcare, humanitarian aid, industrial applications, and regional cargo distribution.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the successful certification and deployment of such hybrid VTOL aircraft could introduce new options for last-mile delivery and specialized cargo transport, particularly in regions with challenging infrastructure or for time-sensitive shipments. It may offer increased flexibility for smaller, high-value, or urgent consignments, potentially impacting regional air cargo networks and creating new niche services.
