Anduril and Archer Aviation have jointly revealed a new line of autonomous hybrid-electric tiltrotor VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft, named Thunder and Halo. This collaboration merges Archer's commercial electric VTOL (eVTOL) technology with Anduril's defense sector knowledge. The Thunder model is specifically engineered for military missions, functioning as a Group 5 autonomous attack rotorcraft capable of operating independently of runways and designed to carry modular payloads. In contrast, the Halo aircraft is intended for commercial applications and dual-use scenarios.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the emergence of autonomous eVTOL aircraft like Halo could signal future innovations in air cargo, particularly for urgent, high-value, or last-mile deliveries in challenging terrains.
