Airbus has released its financial performance for the first half of 2026, showing a notable improvement in both deliveries and new orders. The company delivered 351 commercial aircraft during this period, an increase from 306 units in the previous year. New commercial aircraft orders totaled 886 gross, resulting in 821 net orders after cancellations. This strong order intake has expanded the commercial aircraft backlog to an impressive 9,222 aircraft.
This sustained demand for new aircraft, particularly freighters and passenger-to-freighter conversions, directly impacts air cargo capacity. For freight forwarders, an expanding global fleet suggests potential for increased belly cargo space on passenger flights and dedicated freighter capacity. This could lead to more stable rates and greater flexibility in routing options in the long term, although immediate impacts on spot rates may vary based on specific trade lanes and market conditions. The robust backlog indicates that manufacturers anticipate continued growth in air travel and cargo demand, which is a positive signal for the broader logistics industry.
Beyond commercial aviation, Airbus's Helicopters and Defence and Space divisions also experienced strong order momentum. The overall financial performance, including consolidated revenue and profitability, showed significant improvement, reflecting the company's strong market position and operational efficiency.
