Air France-KLM Group's cargo operations experienced a significant 25.7% rise in revenue during the second quarter, totaling €711 million. This substantial growth is attributed to two main factors: a reduction in overall industry air cargo capacity, particularly stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, and robust demand for high-tech goods.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this indicates a tightening of air cargo capacity on certain lanes, especially those connecting through or impacted by the Middle East. Reduced capacity typically leads to higher airfreight rates and potentially longer transit times or fewer direct options. Forwarders should anticipate continued volatility in pricing and availability on these routes. The strong demand for high-tech shipments suggests that industries reliant on these components are maintaining high production levels, further contributing to the demand for air cargo services. This situation emphasizes the need for forwarders to secure space well in advance and explore alternative routing options to mitigate potential disruptions and cost increases for their clients.
