Zinus, a specialist in cold ironing technology, has announced its involvement in a shore power project at MOWI's new seafood processing facility located in Jøsnøya, Hitra, Norway. The company will supply two ZPP115 cable management systems for installation at the quay. This initiative is a joint effort with the technical contractor JM Hansen.
The shore power solution is designed to serve Napier's harvest vessels, which include the largest vessel of its kind globally. By enabling these vessels to connect to shore power while docked, the project aims to significantly reduce emissions from vessel operations in port.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development highlights a growing trend in the maritime industry towards decarbonization and port electrification. While not directly impacting immediate freight rates or capacity, such infrastructure investments contribute to a more sustainable shipping ecosystem. Forwarders should note the increasing availability of green port solutions, which may become a factor in route planning and carrier selection for environmentally conscious shippers. The project underscores the ongoing shift towards cleaner energy sources in maritime logistics, potentially influencing future regulatory landscapes and operational costs related to emissions.
