Uganda Airlines has formally agreed to a substantial order with Boeing, committing to acquire ten aircraft. The deal, valued at approximately US$985 million (Shs3.7 trillion), encompasses eight passenger aircraft and two dedicated cargo-converted jets. This acquisition represents one of Uganda's largest aviation investments to date, with the signing ceremony attended by President Yoweri Museveni.
This strategic expansion aims to significantly boost Uganda Airlines' operational capacity and improve its international reach. A key objective is to strengthen cargo and trade links, enhancing the country's connectivity within the global logistics network.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development is expected to lead to increased air cargo capacity serving Uganda. The addition of two cargo-converted aircraft specifically indicates a direct focus on air freight, which could result in more frequent flights, improved reliability, and potentially more competitive rates on routes to and from Uganda. This expansion may also open up new direct routing possibilities, reducing reliance on transshipment hubs and shortening overall transit times for air cargo.
