India's air cargo sector is currently experiencing limitations not primarily due to a lack of data, but rather from its fragmented operational structure. Disconnected information systems among airlines, General Sales Agents (GSAs), terminal operators, and various transport providers create significant blind spots within the logistics chain. This fragmentation results in persistent inefficiencies and revenue leakage, particularly at critical cargo handoff points.
The most promising immediate opportunity for digital transformation lies in enhancing real-time visibility at the interface between airlines and GSAs. Improving data flow and transparency in this specific area is expected to address many of the current operational challenges. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this means that current processes in India's air cargo market are likely to involve manual data reconciliation and potential delays. Enhanced real-time visibility would significantly improve shipment tracking, reduce transit times, and minimize errors, leading to more predictable and reliable air cargo movements. This could also help in better capacity planning and more accurate rate negotiations.
