Menzies Aviation is currently testing an artificial intelligence-powered cargo dimensioning system from CIND at its London Heathrow (LHR) facility. The technology is designed to scan cargo as it moves through the warehouse, providing precise measurements in real-time. This trial aims to evaluate the system's effectiveness in improving the efficiency of cargo measurement and optimizing the build-up of air freight.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to more accurate billing based on volumetric weight and potentially faster processing times at the cargo terminal. Enhanced accuracy in dimensioning can also help optimize aircraft loading, ensuring better utilization of space and potentially reducing costs associated with inefficient packing. This could translate to more predictable handling times and improved schedule reliability for air cargo shipments.
