Network Airline Management (NAM), acting on behalf of AVICO, successfully completed an urgent air cargo operation, transporting more than 100 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid. The shipment originated from Liège, Belgium, and was destined for Nairobi, Kenya, forming a crucial segment of a multi-stage airbridge designed to support the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This critical mission involved the coordination of various international bodies, including the European Union and UNICEF, alongside other logistics partners. The cargo primarily consisted of essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), vital medical supplies, and clinical materials, all necessary for combating the Ebola outbreak in the region.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this highlights the critical role of air cargo in rapid humanitarian response. Such operations often involve specialized handling, expedited customs clearance, and close collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including governmental organizations and NGOs. While not directly impacting commercial rates or capacity in major trade lanes, it demonstrates the flexibility and speed of airfreight for time-sensitive, high-value, or emergency shipments, which can sometimes draw on available charter capacity.
