Danish ferry operator Molslinjen has chosen BOS Power to implement turnkey battery energy storage systems (BESS) at its port facilities in Aarhus, Jutland, and Odden, Zealand. This agreement involves the delivery of approximately 250 MWh of energy storage capacity, marking one of the largest projects in BOS Power's history and increasing their total Nordic energy storage portfolio to over 500 MWh across various applications.
BOS Power will serve as the full EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor and system integrator for both locations. Their responsibilities encompass the entire project scope, including design, supply, and installation, under a single point of accountability. This strategic investment aims to enhance the energy efficiency and sustainability of Molslinjen's ferry operations.
For freight forwarders and supply chain managers, this development signifies a move towards more sustainable maritime logistics infrastructure. Shore power and energy storage systems at ports can reduce vessel emissions while docked, contributing to environmental compliance and potentially improving operational stability by ensuring a consistent power supply. While not directly impacting freight rates or capacity in the short term, such investments support the long-term decarbonization goals of the shipping industry, which can influence future regulatory costs and customer preferences for green logistics solutions.
