Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" LINE) has placed an order for four new LNG dual-fuel car carriers. The vessels will be constructed by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard and are intended to bolster K Line's short-sea shipping services across Europe, operating under its European subsidiary, KESS. This investment highlights the company's commitment to modernizing its fleet with more environmentally friendly options.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies a continued shift towards greener shipping practices in the automotive logistics sector. The introduction of LNG-powered vessels on European short-sea routes may contribute to more stable and potentially more compliant shipping options for automotive cargo, especially as environmental regulations tighten. It could also influence capacity and scheduling for intra-European vehicle movements, offering more reliable and sustainable choices for shippers.
