Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced the temporary suspension of its dedicated Boeing 767 freighter operations on the Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Hong Kong (HKG) route. This adjustment is necessary to accommodate scheduled maintenance and aircraft rotation requirements. Despite the suspension of its own freighter, JAL will continue to offer cargo capacity on this important trade lane through a codeshare partnership with Kalitta Air.
This change to JAL's summer schedule became effective on June 15. The collaboration with Kalitta Air ensures that the vital air cargo link between these two major Asian hubs remains operational, mitigating potential disruptions for freight movements.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development means that while the direct JAL freighter service is paused, capacity between Tokyo and Hong Kong will not be entirely lost. The codeshare with Kalitta Air provides an alternative for booking cargo, maintaining supply chain stability on this specific route. Forwarders should verify specific flight schedules and capacity allocations under the new arrangement to manage their shipments effectively. Rates and transit times may see minor adjustments depending on the operational specifics of the Kalitta Air flights.
