Everllence has announced that its B&W ME GI Mk10.7 dual-fuel methane engine has received its inaugural commercial order. The engines are slated for installation in four car carriers commissioned by the Norwegian shipowner Global Car Carriers (GCC). Each vessel will have an 8,600 car equivalent unit (CEU) capacity.
The order includes four 6S60ME GI Mk10.7 engines, which will be manufactured by CSSC Engine Co. in Qingdao, China. These engines are destined for vessels currently under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China. This development represents a significant milestone for Everllence, as it signifies the first commercial deployment of the ME GI engine on the Mk10.7 platform.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this news highlights the ongoing shift towards more sustainable shipping solutions in the automotive logistics sector. The adoption of dual-fuel methane engines on new car carriers indicates a commitment to reducing emissions, which could influence future compliance requirements and potentially lead to green shipping incentives. While there is no immediate impact on rates or capacity, the long-term trend towards alternative fuels may affect vessel availability and operational costs as the global fleet transitions.
