CMA CGM has announced modifications to two of its regional shipping services, aiming to streamline operations in Northern Europe and broaden its reach in the Eastern Mediterranean. The carrier is merging its Dunkirk Express (DKX) service with the Helsingborg Express (HLX). This consolidation will result in an expanded Northern Europe loop that will now include a stop in Hamburg, improving connectivity for shippers in that region. The revised service will utilize two vessels.
Simultaneously, CMA CGM is enhancing its Eastern Mediterranean service by introducing a new port call at Piraeus. This addition is expected to provide increased connectivity and service options for cargo moving to and from Greece and the wider Eastern Mediterranean area.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, these changes mean potential adjustments to transit times and routing options for cargo moving between Northern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. The integration of services could lead to more direct connections or altered feeder schedules, requiring careful planning for supply chain optimization. The new Hamburg call offers improved access to a major European hub, while the Piraeus addition expands direct service to a key Mediterranean gateway. Forwarders should review the updated schedules to leverage these new service configurations for their clients.
