BGN, identified as the sixth-largest independent energy and commodities trading entity, has finalized an agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) for the construction of two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). Each vessel will feature a substantial cargo capacity of 93,000 cubic meters and will be equipped with dual-fuel propulsion systems. The shipbuilding will take place at HD HHI's facility in Korea, with the delivery of both vessels anticipated in 2026.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this fleet expansion signals potential shifts in LPG shipping capacity. The introduction of new, larger, and more fuel-efficient VLGCs could contribute to increased availability on key gas trade routes, potentially influencing freight rates for LPG carriage. The dual-fuel capability also aligns with growing industry trends towards lower-emission shipping, which may offer advantages for shippers focused on supply chain sustainability.
