Rotterdam-based maritime transport company Acta Marine has officially received the Acta Gemini, which is the third of four methanol dual-fuel construction service operation vessels (CSOVs) from Turkish shipbuilder Tersan Shipyard. These CSOVs are specifically engineered to facilitate the installation, maintenance, and operational support of offshore energy infrastructure, with a particular focus on offshore wind farms.
This delivery underscores the ongoing trend within the maritime industry to adopt more sustainable fuel options. Methanol dual-fuel technology allows vessels to operate on lower-emission fuels, aligning with global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping and offshore operations.
For freight forwarders and supply chain professionals, the introduction of such specialized vessels indicates an expanding and modernizing fleet dedicated to the offshore wind sector. This development suggests improved capacity and efficiency for transporting personnel and equipment to offshore wind farm sites, which could lead to more reliable project timelines. The use of methanol as a fuel also reflects a broader industry push towards green shipping corridors and alternative fuels, potentially influencing future bunkering strategies and environmental compliance requirements for project cargo movements.
Acta Marine is expected to take delivery of the fourth vessel in this series, further expanding its fleet of advanced offshore support vessels.
