WEC Lines has introduced its new weekly EBRO rail service in Spain, which commenced operations on May 21, 2026. This new intermodal offering connects Agoncillo in La Rioja and Zaragoza in Aragón directly with the port of Barcelona. The service is designed to create a seamless link to WEC Lines' established ESC shortsea service, which provides connections to the Canary Islands. The carrier will operate this new rail connection using its own dedicated trains.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new service offers enhanced intermodal connectivity within Spain, particularly for cargo originating from or destined for La Rioja and Aragón regions. The direct rail link to Barcelona streamlines the transfer of goods to WEC Lines' shortsea network, potentially reducing transit times and improving reliability for shipments to the Canary Islands. This could lead to more predictable scheduling and potentially lower drayage costs by minimizing road transport segments to the port. Forwarders should evaluate this new option for cargo flows on this specific route.
