Singapore-based shipbuilder Strategic Marine has announced the signing of new shipbuilding contracts with Mainprize Offshore for two 33-meter Supa Swath crew transfer vessels (CTVs). This agreement marks a significant expansion of Mainprize Offshore's fleet, bringing their total number of Supa Swath vessels, both delivered and on order, to ten.
These new 33-meter CTVs are an evolution of the existing 26-meter Supa Swath design, developed by Walker Marine Design. The Supa Swath design is known for its stability and efficiency in transferring personnel and equipment to offshore installations, particularly within the growing offshore wind sector.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals continued investment in the offshore wind energy sector. While not directly impacting container or bulk cargo rates, it indicates sustained demand for specialized marine support vessels. This could indirectly influence demand for project cargo services related to wind farm construction and maintenance, requiring careful planning for oversized components and specialized equipment logistics.
